As we introduce our brand to you - the genesis and vision of our work here at the Foundation - we'd like to take a moment to highlight the beautiful visual in our logo that surrounds the silhouette of Slick Vick - the purple orchid.
Throughout the journey that led us to connect with you for this hugely important cause, we have been peripherally aware of the impressive lifespan of the large purple orchid plant on the Hoppe residence pool deck. The plant receives only an occasional splash of water and nothing more and has been in perpetual bloom for at least the last 21 years. The plant belonged to my grandmother, was handed down to my father, and then to me when he passed in 2002. Receiving very little attention from us over the next few decades, the plant bloomed and thrived. During the last 4 years of her life, when Victoria's battle with cancer ensued, the plant bloomed with abundance. We knew little about orchids but, at the very least, felt that the perpetual blooms were nature's way of comforting us during the most trying of times. We soon learned, after a brief look at the history of the purple orchid, that we were receiving much more.
In its September 15, 2022 online Floraly Journal entry, Floraly, an Australian flowering gift company, notes that the purple orchid is “rich in symbolism and meaning and steeped in history and culture.” Indeed, it is! Floraly comments further that in Asia, the purple orchid is a symbol of respect and admiration and that to the Aztecs, purple orchids were symbols of strength and power. In the Victorian culture, Floraly notes, purple orchids were gifted as a way of conveying to the recipient a message of respect and admiration. Bingo! The purple orchid pairs perfectly with the genesis and vision of our Foundation, and we absolutely had to incorporate it into our brand. You will see its image and color surrounding our work and the sneaker gifting we'll do with your help! It is our hope that the Foundation brings the power of the purple orchid into your hearts and homes as we harness its energy and embellish our work with its visuals.
